Testing & Electrical Maintenance
NETA-compliant testing paired with preventive and corrective maintenance for switchgear, transformers, breakers, and cable systems — diagnose and remediate in a single visit.

Testing & Electrical Maintenance
AK&J Electric delivers diagnostic testing and electrical maintenance as one continuous service. Our certified technicians measure the condition of every asset — insulation, contact resistance, thermography, oil, partial discharge — then complete the corrective work in the same outage window.
From a single LV switchgear lineup to plant-wide MV distribution, every visit ends with a NETA-format report, prioritized remediation list, and signed-off as-left data.
What Our Team Delivers
Diagnostic Testing
- Insulation resistance & polarization index
- Hi-pot (DC & AC) on bus, cable, and switchgear
- Contact resistance (micro-ohm) testing
- Power factor / Doble testing on transformers and bushings
- Turns-ratio (TTR) and excitation current
- Ground continuity & fall-of-potential earth testing
Predictive & Condition Assessment
- Infrared thermography surveys
- Partial discharge (PD) testing on MV switchgear and cable
- Transformer oil DGA, moisture, and dielectric testing
- Vibration and operating-time analysis on breakers
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Breaker racking, lubrication, and contact inspection
- Bus joint torque verification and re-termination
- Relay testing, trip-curve verification, and re-settings
- Transformer LTC service and oil filtration
- Cable termination repair and re-stress-coning
Reporting & Compliance
- NETA ATS / MTS-format test reports
- Comparison vs. nameplate and manufacturer specs
- Prioritized remediation recommendations
- Photo documentation and as-found / as-left data
Testing & Maintenance — Frequently Asked
What's the difference between testing and electrical maintenance?
Testing is the diagnostic measurement (insulation resistance, contact resistance, infrared, etc.) that tells you the condition of your equipment. Electrical maintenance is the corrective work that follows — cleaning, lubrication, torquing, re-settings, and component replacement. We deliver both as a single coordinated visit.
Are your procedures NETA-compliant?
Yes. Every test is performed to NETA ATS-2021 (acceptance) or NETA MTS-2023 (maintenance) procedures, with deliverable test reports in NETA format suitable for AHJ, insurance, and corporate audits.
How often should switchgear and transformers be tested?
NETA MTS recommends a 1–3 year interval for most LV/MV switchgear and transformers depending on criticality, environment, and load profile. Mission-critical assets (data centers, hospitals) are typically tested annually.
Do you provide thermal imaging?
Yes. Infrared thermography is included with every preventive maintenance visit and available as a stand-alone service. Findings are documented with side-by-side visible/IR images and ΔT classifications per NETA MTS Appendix B.
Can you service energized equipment?
Where allowed by the AHJ and your site safety procedures, we perform energized infrared and operational testing using qualified personnel in NFPA 70E-rated PPE. Invasive maintenance is always performed de-energized under LOTO.
